RARE 1947 WOOLAROC MODEL 3-2A
By the Phillips Petroleum Company

Here's a fully restored 1947 "Museum Quality" bakelite tube radio not often seen and with a great history as well! This Streamline Deco Designed beauty reminds me of an early Trailways bus (see last pic) and although a fairly simple design... a very cool one no less and sometimes simple is better when it comes to design.

The cabinet design is not the only unique feature of this set, but the chassis as well... housing a solid 6 tube strong audio chassis with excellent reception and volume as well! It also has a tone knob (right) which is a nice feature for extra treble or bass tone. With the  long 16" large cabinet the sound is even more enhanced for excellent rich audio tone.

I encourage you to read the indepth history of Frank Phillips and the Woolaroc Ranch as well as the 1927 Dole Air race which was won by Arthur Goebel with the Woolaroc Travel Air 5000 aircraft. Unfortunately there was also great tragedy with 6 deaths and only two planes finishing the race. At a time when flying was extremely dangerous... these pilots were considered heros and the public was facinated with early 1920's aviation.

The Radio-Cafe takes great pride in restoring these great pieces of history to their original state as closely as possible and painting over it with a candy coated so-called catalin type paint job would be unthinkable! So for those of you who appreciate authentic restorations of ANY antique which retains greater value... then this classic Woolaroc might interest you. SOLD

Thanks for looking!

HISTORY

The Frank Phillips Ranch was founded in 1925 and the Woolaroc Museum had a humble beginning four years later in 1929.

Frank Phillips was a great aviation enthusiast. If Lindbergh had not flown the Atlantic Ocean in 1927, there might never have been a Woolaroc Museum. Just five months after the historic Lindbergh flight, Frank sponsored a small, single-engine monoplane named "WOOLAROC" in the Dole Flight from Oakland, California to Honolulu, Hawaii Territory on August 24-25, 1927.

Twenty-six hours, seventeen minutes and thirty-three seconds after taking off, the WOOLAROC landed at Wheeler Field in Honolulu, winning the race. Two years after this historic trans-Pacific flight, the plane was retired to the Woolaroc ranch for which it was named.
